Chapter Three
'Out of this World'
Bluey let out another “rumbling whine” as his master scaled the fence and disappeared. Of course, he wanted Tomas to stay with him, but the whingeing was also for the vet, the prospect of painful needles and foul medicine—that's the last thing he needs. In fact, something about going to the vet felt terribly wrong. He just needed to rest, that's all. And with that, turned and trotted back under the house, where he promptly curled-up and fell into a deep sleep.'Out of this World'
The strange dreams started immediately. Bluey's normal canine-dreams—life-replays—are destined to become less frequent as time wears on. These new dreams, to name the process, will replace the former. This three-year-old blue heeler dog had no choice but to adapt to the extra-intelligence, as did five other dogs and six cats around the planet. These specially chosen animals are part of an alien-intervention, to ensure the human-race did not destroy Earth.
The key to the whole plan is of course, the animals’ themselves, they had to adapt quickly to their new powers and remain anonymous. At all costs!
While Bluey slept, his body completed the final stages of conditioning. He'd been under for a total of six hours, when through the trance-like state of consciousness, he heard Tomas calling his name…"Bluey, come on, get out here will yah!" He woke to see four human legs standing beside the house. Then he remembered what Tomas had said about his father and the vet. Now fully conditioned, his mind—via the bio-chips—instructed him that the vet could mean detection, and that must never happen!
Yet, given this immediate concern and other trials of the day, Bluey felt calm and refreshed. The Daxian procedure to create animal agents is a first in the known universe. The main foreseen problem was mind and tissue rejection, ultimately ending in death within eight Daxian hours—about twelve Earth hours. However, Bluey was well past that, as were the other eleven agents. They were all now, for a human explanation, super animals.
Tomas had come home straight after school, to find his father sitting in the kitchen reading a newspaper. John Tomas Banks is the recently elected local Labor Member for government, and was still dressed in his best black suit. However, that didn't deter Tomas, a half-size model with freckles, from dragging his father outside saying he needed him to have a look at Bluey.
"He's probably been in a fight son, that's all" John said, after listening to a brief, edited version of Bluey’s prior antics. "You know what blue heelers are like."
"I just want you to have a look at him, dad," Tomas said, standing up from calling Bluey from under the house.
With that, Bluey came crawling out and stood there waging his tail, ears pricked and looking for the entire world a picture of complete health.
Tomas' father immediately stepped back—Bluey was renowned for jumping on people—but it was unnecessary, for his son's dog stood there calm as can be. "He seems alright to me, Tomas," John stated. "If anything, a bit quiet." He bent down and patted Bluey's head. "You're all right mate, aren't you."
Bluey just wagged his tail. He now realised there'd be no more jumping around like a crazy dog, or trying to talk like a human. ©
